TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 34-year-old man suspected in a series of purse-snatching incidents, reports TBS News (Oct. 8).

At around 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Tsuyoshi Asada, a company employee, is alleged to have used a bicycle to come up from behind a woman, 75, on a road in Edogawa Ward and steal her handbag containing 7,000 yen in cash.

The woman suffered a broken bone in her right hand during the incident.

Asada, who has been charged with robbery resulting in injury, admits to the allegations. “I wanted money,” the suspect is quoted by police.

Asada was apprehended by officers arriving at the scene after the scene. According to TV Asahi (Oct. 8), the suspect is under investigation for two other similar cases that took place last month.
