KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have launched an investigation into what is believed to have been a murder-suicide following discovery of the bodies of a disabled woman and her son on a road in Isehara City, reports TBS News (Oct. 8).

At around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, police received a tip about “a person collapsed at a stopped vehicle on a road.” Officers arriving at the scene found Mikiyo Arate, 82, in the passenger seat with a rope around her neck. The body of her 62-year-old son was found hanged with a rope near the rear door.

Both persons were confirmed dead at the scene.

According to police, the woman suffered from a cognitive impairment. It is suspected that the son strangled his mother before using the rear door to hang himself with a rope.
