Hyogo cops: Girl’s body found in river; suicide suspected

HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police are investigating what is believed to have been a suicide following the discovery of girl’s body a river in Kobe, reports Nippon News Network (Oct. 6).

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, police were tipped off by a passerby about a “girl collapsed and not moving in river” in the Momoyamadai area of Tarumi Ward.

Police and fire personal arriving at the scene found the girl lying face-up in the water. She was later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital.

The girl was clothed in a gym uniform. According to a local board of education, the girl is believed to be a third-year student at a nearby middle school.

A rope was found attached to a bridge above where the girl’s body was found. With cuts observed around the girl’s neck and a note detailing family problems found inside a backpack left at the scene, police suspect the girl took her own life by hanging.
