HOKKAIDO (TR) – Six police officers were injured in Hakodate City on Thursday after they fell through the second floor of an aging apartment while they were trying to talk down a resident from committing suicide.

Six officers from the Hakodate Chuo Police Station were dispatched to a three-story apartment after a resident from a nearby apartment reported that “someone is trying to commit suicide” at around 4:25 p.m., the Sankei Shimbun reports (October 6).

The six police officers were trying to talk down the resident from outside their door on the second floor some three meters off the ground when they fell through, two of them suffering serious injuries including fractures.

The resident was successfully secured by another officer, police said, adding that the interior structure of the building was in a highly deteriorated state.
