TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 63-year-old man who has admitted to stealing up to 400 postal items at residences in the metropolis, reports TBS News (Oct. 1).

In August, Masashi Ogata, of no known address, is alleged to have stolen an envelope containing a Blu-ray from the mailbox of a woman living in an apartment building in Suginami Ward.

Ogata, who has been charged with theft, admits to the allegations. “I’ve been troubled by living expenses,” the suspect is quoted by police. “Beginning the year before last, I’ve done the same thing between 300 and 400 times.”

Police suspect that Ogata targeted mailboxes in other wards, including Shinjuku and Nakano.
