CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police have confirmed that a corpse found dismembered at a port in Choshi City last month belongs to a 33-year-old man from Ibaraki Prefecture, reports NHK (Sept. 30).

The results of a DNA analysis conducted on remains found floating at Choshi Port on September 22 indicated the body is that of Takuya Ono, a resident of Ushiku City, Ibaraki.

The body, which consisted of an unclothed torso, was found floating between a boat and a wharf. The torso included an irezumi tattoo, which are often sported by underworld figures.

The head, both arms and legs appeared to have been severed with a knife. None of these other parts have yet been found.

Police were alerted to the possibility that the body is that of Ono after receiving a tip from a male acquaintance on September 24.

On August 30, Ono’s father filed a missing persons report with Gifu Prefectural Police after he had been unable to contact his son, police said.
