Kyoto cops launch murder investigation after man stabbed to death

KYOTO (TR) – Kyoto Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of the body of a man on a street in Fushimi Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Sept. 29).

At just after midnight on Wednesday, police received two tips about “a man involved in a fistfight” outside a housing complex in the Momoyamacho area.

Officers arriving at the scene discovered a man, later identified as 46-year-old Naoki Watanabe, collapsed and bleeding from stab wounds to more than 10 locations of his body, including his head, chest and abdomen.

The victim, who was shirtless and clothed only in underwear, was confirmed dead at a nearby hospital about one hour later. The cause of death was loss of blood. No weapon has yet been located.

According to police, a vehicle was scene leaving a parking lot near the scene of the incident just before the discovery of Watanabe’s body.

Police are also investigating the charred remains of a vehicle belonging to Watanabe that was found set ablaze in a parking lot in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture about 30 minutes after the tips were received.
