CHIBA (TR) – Police are hunting for a suspect who flooded a middle school here on Sunday by leaving faucets running in a classroom.

A male assistant principal called police reporting that a “classroom on the fourth floor is completely flooded because someone left a faucet running” at around 9 a.m. at Owada Middle School in the town of Yachiyo, the Sankei Shimbun reports (September 25).

Police said an investigation is under way to examine the possibility that someone snuck in sometime between 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday morning.

Water was seeping through to the second and third floors, police said.

A teacher who went home at around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday said they saw nothing unusual, TV Asahi reported.

Police are investigating whether the case is tied to a similar incident at Murakami Middle School, which sits about two kilometers away, where a classroom was flooded because someone snuck in and left the faucets running.
