SAITAMA (TR) –  Saitama Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a body in an abandoned ramen shop in Kasukabe City, reports the Saitama Shimbun (Sept. 18).

At approximately 3:15 p.m., officers from the Kasukabe Police Station working off a tip found the body, which had turned skeletal, in the corner of the shop, located on the second floor of the building in the Niigatafukuro area.

The gender of the body is not known.

A yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurant once occupied the first floor of the building. Both shops closed about 20 years ago.

A 64-year-old man alerted police after he navigated past a broken fence and slipped through an opening in a wall to enter the building. The man said that he was curious since “a body had been found in the same shop three or four years ago.”

Police are now seeking to identify the body and locate the owner of the building.
