TOKYO (TR) – The Tokyo District Court on Thursday handed former actor Noboru Takachi and a female companion a suspended prison term on illegal drug charges, reports NHK (Sept. 15).

Presiding Judge Masahito Murohashi handed Takachi, 51, whose real name is Joji Osaki, and Atsuko Isokawa, a 34-year-old bar hostess, sentences of two years in prison, suspended for four years, for the usage and possession of kakuseizai, or stimulant drugs.

“Since defendant Takachi has used the drugs over a considerable long period of time, his addiction is significant,” the judge said. “It is then inevitable that he receive a harsh penalty.”

On June 24, police arrested Takachi and Isokawa after they were found to be in possession of four grams of stimulant drugs in a love hotel room in Yokohama. Police also found 1.3 grams of marijuana in the possession of Takachi. Both persons were subsequently charged with the use of stimulant drugs after the results of urine tests revealed the presence of the illegal substances.

Takachi was married to actress Reiko Takashima. They divorced after his arrest in August.
