OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested the manager of a bar for the possession of marijuana as a part of a crackdown on the trade of illegal drugs in nightlife areas, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Sept. 15).

In August, the Kinki Narcotics Control Department seized three marijuana plants, 90 grams of dried cannabis and 0.056 grams of cocaine from the home of Kimio Shiiki and his bar, located in the America-mura entertainment district of Chuo Ward.

Shiiki told police the contraband was for his private use.

According to police, Shiiki began raising marijuana plants in the summer of last year. He is believed to have earned 100,000 yen through the sale of the drug.

America-mura is known as a location where drugs are readily available. In 2009, a university student arrested for the possession of marijuana told officers he purchased the drugs in America-mura.
