TOKYO (TR) – A special investigative unit of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutor’s Office has arrested a former officer of an IT company for embezzling more than 100 million yen, some of which was spent on adult entertainment, reports Fuji News Network (Sept. 13).

Between June of 2013 and August of 2015, Tomoya Kimura, a 44-year-old former officer at AppBank, allegedly embezzled 135 million yen by falsely earmarking the funds as advertising expenses. On 21 occasions, transfers were made to bank accounts managed by him and an acquaintance.

Prior to his arrest, Kimura told TV Asahi (Sept. 13) that he planned to return the money. “Part of the money was used to repay taxes and for entertainment,” he told the network. The “entertainment” included hostess clubs, the report said.

AppBank, based in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward, provides applications and accessories for the iPhone via its web site. It is listed on the Mothers market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
