TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly killing his father inside the residence they share in Toshima Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Sept. 12).

At around 1:10 p.m. on Sunday, Masatoshi Kaneko allegedly assaulted his father, Hiroshi, 64, in the back of the head in the kitchen of the residence, located in the Nagasaki area. He was confirmed dead at a nearby hospital two hours later.

After the incident, a member of the family alerted emergency services. “After a quarrel, a person was struck and injured,” the caller said.

Officers from the Mejiro Police Station arrested Kaneko on charges of assault resulting in injury early Monday morning. “I hit him in the abdomen and head with my hands,” the suspect is quoted by police.

After determining the cause of death, police may change the charges against the suspect to manslaughter or murder.
