SHIZUOKA (TR) – Shizuoka Prefectural Police have arrested a 28-year-old medical intern for a hospital over the alleged drugging and rape of a woman in Yaizu City, reports Nippon News Network (Aug. 27).

At around midnight on August 27, Yusuke Otani allegedly spiked the drink of the woman, aged in her 20s, with a sleeping powder while at a gathering of between five and six persons at a restaurant. After the woman became drowsy, he sexually assaulted her inside a different restaurant.

Otani, who has been charged with quasi-rape, denies the charges.

The suspect is a medical intern at Yaizu City Hospital.

Police are now working to identify exactly what drug was inserted into the victim’s drink.
