NAGASAKI (TR) – Nagasaki Prefectural Police have arrested a 51-year-old man for allegedly killing his uncle inside the residence they share in Shimabara City, reports TBS News (Aug. 31).
Police arrested Takahiro Sakai for allegedly stabbing 81-year-old Shinichi Horita to death earlier this month. His body was found by a relative in the bathroom on the first floor of the residence, located in the Ariakecho area, at around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The body, which was fully clothed, had several stab wounds. According to the Asahi Shimbun (Aug. 31), the cause of death was due to shock caused by loss of blood. Police estimate that he was killed in the two-day period prior to the discovery.
After the incident, Sakai is believed to have fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle. He had not been seen since August 22. Police apprehended the suspect early Wednesday morning in nearby Minami-Shimabara City.
Previously, Horita had been living with his older sister and her husband. However, after they moved to a rest home he had been living with the suspect, who is their son.
Sakai admits to the charges. Police are now seeking a motive for the alleged crime.
