KOGA, Ibaraki (TR) – Thieves snatched 10 million yen in cash and valuables worth a total of 3 million yen from an elderly man’s safe on Sunday, police said.
The Furukawa Station Police received an emergency call from a 66-year-old man in Koga City at around 7 a.m. reporting that his “room was trashed,” the Sankei Shimbun reports (Aug. 28).
Some 9.22 million yen in cash was missing along with around 20 valuables including bracelets worth a total of some 3.5 million yen in what police are investigating as a case of burglary.
The man, who lives alone, returned home at around midnight on Sunday and realized his residence was trashed with a broken first-floor window and the door still locked.
The victim believes the thieves broke in after he left his house at around 5 p.m. on Saturday.
