NIIGATA (TR) – Niigata Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a corpse inside a burned-out vehicle in Nagaoka City, reports Nippon News Network (Aug. 27).
At around 11:00 p.m. on Friday, a passerby telephoned emergency services to report a car on fire in the dry riverbed of the Shinano River in the Ojimamachi area. Three fire brigades arriving at the scene extinguished the blaze after 40 minutes.
A corpse of unknown identity was later discovered in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
The location of the discovery is about 300 meters upstream of the Chosei Bridge.
Police are treating the case as the result of foul play or suicide.
