TOKYO (TR) – A male university student was arrested for spiking a teenage girl’s drink on their first encounter before carrying her to a hotel and raping and impregnating her, Nippon News Network reported on Wednesday (Aug. 24).

Tokyo police arrested Ikuma Morikami, 22, a university student of Suginami Ward, on sexual assault charges for allegedly slipping sleeping medication into a teenage girl’s drinks at an izakaya restaurant in the Kabukicho entertainment area of Shinjuku Ward in April to render her unconscious before carrying her to a nearby hotel and raping her.

Morikami has denied the charges, claiming he “didn’t put drugs in her drinks, and we had both agreed to go to a hotel.”

Morikami and the victim met through an online game in what was their first encounter in person.

The teenage girl became pregnant after the alleged rape and had an abortion, Nippon News Network reported.
