TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 54-year-old man after he allegedly abandoned his father’s corpse inside his residence in Nishi-Tokyo City and camped out to evade capture, reports TBS News (Aug. 22).

Police have accused Yoshimasa Tsuzuki of leaving the body of his father, 84-year-old Shigeo, inside the residence they share after he died in May.

Tsuzuki admits to the allegations. “Since I didn’t have money for a funeral service, I didn’t report it,” the suspect is quoted by police.

On August 7, the suspect’s sister entered the residence and found the skeletal remains of her father. At the time, the whereabouts of Tsuzuki were unknown.

According to police, Tsuzuki had been camping out at a nearby park since the day of the discovery of his father’s body. Police apprehended the suspect during a patrol of the residence, during which time he returned home to change his clothes.
