MIYAZAKI (TR) – Miyazaki Prefectural Police have arrested two organized crime members after a former gangster was beaten to death in a brawl last week in Miyazaki City, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Aug. 19).

On around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, police received a tip about a “10-person brawl” on a road in the Tashirocho area.

Officers arriving at the scene found five men and women. Shinichi Honda, a 43-year-old former member of the Yamaguchi-gumi, had sought assistance from a nearby residence for a serious wound to his abdomen. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead later that morning due to shock caused by loss of blood.

Prior to the arrival of the police, several other persons had fled the scene, with a number of them placed on a wanted list.

At around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Ken Taniguchi, a 44-year-old upper-level member of the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi, and Satoshi Fujino, a 35-year-old executive of the same gang, turned themselves over to officers at the Miyazakikita Police Station. They were charged with violating a physical violence law regarding a group attack. The pair could later be charged in the killing of Honda.

Police are seeking the whereabouts of several other members of the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi as a part of the investigation in the case.
