AKITA (TR) – Following a series of bear attacks in Kazuno City, a newspaper delivery woman suffered injuries in another incident on Sunday, reports Nippon News Network (Aug. 14).

At approximately 4:00 a.m., a bear standing upright grabbed the woman, 53, from behind on the property of a private residence in the Towadaokada area. After the woman fell to the ground, the bear fled the scene into the mountains. The woman suffered scratches to her back.

The attack follows three similar incidents that took place last week. On Tuesday, a 77-year-old woman suffered injuries to her head and back after she was attacked from behind by a bear in a field at her home in the Hachimantai area.

Ten minutes later, a bear, believed to be the same animal, scratched the right thigh of another woman, 75, in a field about 200 meters away from the first attack. In fleeing the area, the woman broke her left ankle.

The following day, a bear attacked an 83-year-old man in a field in Semboku City. The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his face and chest.

In May and June, four men and women were found dead in the Towadaoyu area of Kazuno due to what are believed to have been attacks by bears. After the fourth body was found on June 10, a member of a hunting club shot and killed a 1.5-meter-tall Asian black bear three days later. An examination of its stomach revealed human remains.
