Hyogo cops nab man for abandoning mother’s corpse

Suspect said about his mother's body, 'It is worrisome, and I can no longer take it'

HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police have arrested a 53-year-old man for abandoning the body of his mother inside the residence they share in Awaji City, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Aug. 9).

At 2:00 p.m. on Monday, police found the body of Fumiko Nishioka, 89, collapsed inside the residence, located in the Kusumoto area. The woman, attired in her underwear, had vomited blood.

According to Nishioka, who has been charged with abandoning a corpse, his mother died on July 23. The suspect left the residence four days later. On Monday, he alerted police by telephone from Akashi City. “It is worrisome, and I can no longer take it,” he reportedly said in speaking about his mother’s body, according to Mainichi Broadcasting System (Aug. 9).

Police are now attempting to determine the cause of death of Fumiko.
