CHIBA (TR) – A brief power outage brought numerous attractions to a standstill at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea on Tuesday as visitors were temporarily evacuated to indoor facilities.

Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) said lightning struck a transmission facility near the theme parks in Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture, and briefly lowered its voltage, Jiji Press reports (August 2).

No injuries were reported.

Oriental Land, which runs both parks, said the power went out shortly after a thunderstorm shuttered a number of outdoor attractions and visitors were escorted to indoor facilities.

Visitors were safely assisted off rides at both parks and guided to a safe location.

Both parks were back in business by 3 p.m. after safety checks on attractions were completed.

Safety at Disney

Disney’s safety measures were called into question in June after an alligator dragged a 2-year-old boy into a lagoon and killed him near a Walt Disney World hotel in Orlando, Florida.

Management has slowly been removing references to alligators at Disney World, according to numerous media reports.
