TOKUSHIMA (TR) – An assistant inspector with the Tokushima Prefectural Police has been ordered to pay a fine by a summary court after he admitted to taking numerous illicit photographs of women, reports the Sankei Shimbun (July 29).

On Friday, the Tokushima Summary court ordered Masayuki Hayashi,  36-year-old employee in an accounting division, to pay a fine of one million yen for concealing a small camera in a bag in order to film the underwear and thighs of nine women at a shopping mall in Tokushima City between April 21 and July 4. Hayashi retired from his post on the day of the court order.

Tokushima police first arrested Hayashi on July 8 after being tipped off by a security guard at a mall. Hayashi was charged with violating a public nuisance ordinance for filming up the skirt of a sixth-year elementary school girl.

On the day of his arrest, the assistant inspector was not on duty. Police checked his camera but did not find a storage card. However, he admitted to having committed the crime on numerous occasions previously, according to the Asahi Shimbun (July 9).
