SAGA (TR) – Saga Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a body along a shore in Saga City, reports the Saga Shimbun (July 31).

At approximately 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, a male worker charged with removing driftwood notified police about the discovery of skeletal remains along the Ariakekai coast, about one kilometer southeast of the terminal building at the Saga Airport.

The corpse, which measures 155 centimeters in height, was not clothed and did not have hair. The gender of the person is unknown.

One notable observation was that the left shin had a scar where a seven-centimeter metal plate had been inserted.

Police are now attempting to identify the body and determine the cause of death.

Update: The body has been identified as that of 86-year-old Naganori Nonaka, reports the Saga Shimbun (Aug. 5). Police are viewing the chances that foul play was involved in the case as small.
