KAGOSHIMA (TR) – A police sergeant was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly throwing his arms around a female stranger and attempting to molest her after drinking with his colleagues in Kanoya City.

Kagoshima Prefectural Police arrested Yoichi Fukushima, 38, the sergeant of the traffic department at the Kanoya Police Station, on attempted indecent assault charges for wrapping his arms around a woman in her 20s before attempting to molest her on July 16 at around midnight, the Sankei Shimbun reports (July 27).

Fukushima went drinking with his colleagues after work on July 15, police said. After leaving the establishment, he stalked a woman he saw near a restaurant district.

A passerby heard the victim’s cries for help and called police. Fukushima fled from the scene.

Fukushima was voluntarily accompanied to a police station on Wednesday, and claims he is not acquainted with the victim.
