IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Prefectural Police have arrested a 44-year-old man in the killing of his mother at the residence they share in Yuki City, reports the Asahi Shimbun (July 21).

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on July 20, a man telephoned emergency services to report an incident at the residence. Police arriving at the scene found the body of Kazuko Fujinuki, 75, collapsed in a first-floor room.

The woman was transported to a hospital in a state of cardiac arrest but she died the following morning.

Yoichi Fujinuki is believed to have killed his mother three hours before making the call to police. Yoichi, who has been charged with attempted murder, told police that he beat his mother in the head before stabbing her. “I stabbed her in the abdomen with scissors,” the suspect is quoted by police, according to TBS News (July 21).

Police found a pair of blood-stained scissors on a desk in the room.

The 46-year-old sister of the suspect also lives in the residence. She was not present at the time of the crime.

Police are investigating whether to change the charge against Yoichi to murder.
