SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police have arrested a 49-year-old man for allegedly abducting and raping a female university student in Ageo City, reports the Saitama Shimbun (July 21).

On April 26 at 1:15 a.m., Nobuaki Kuramo, a company employee, approached the woman on a street as she commuted home in the Ageomura area and said while thrusting a knife before her, “Be quiet, don’t make any noise or I’ll kill you!”

Kuramo then allegedly confined the woman inside his van, where he raped her and stole her underwear. She was released two and a half hours later.

“After finding a young woman, I immediately get a desire to attack her,” the suspect is quoted by police.

The woman reported the incident to a nearby police box. Investigators apprehended Kuramo after an examination of security camera footage taken in the area of the alleged crime.

Kuramo, who has been charge with rape, robbery and confinement, admits to the first two charges but denies confining the woman. “She had a chance to flee,” the suspect is quoted.
