KYOTO (TR) – Kyoto Prefectural Police have arrested an organized crime member over the alleged extortion of a sex service in the historic Gion area, reports the Sankei Shimbun (July 19).

On two occasions in April, Kazu Komura, a 46-year-old boss of an affiliate gang of the Yamaguchi-gumi, and his wife, Mieko, 47, allegedly received 200,000 yen for yojimbo-dai, or protection money, from Keisuke Kitazaki, the 37-year-old manager of a “delivery health” out-call service.

In late June, police arrested Kitazaki for sending hostesses to customers without a proper license under the Manpower Dispatch Business Law. During the investigation of that case, the alleged crimes by Komura and his wife surfaced.

Kitazaki told police that he had been paying protection money to Komura, who heads the Kyoto-based Hisatomi Rengo-kai, since around 2005.
