KANAGAWA (TR) – An elderly man groped the thighs of a woman who was snoozing on the train on Sunday — and soon ended up in police custody after she turned out to be an off-duty officer.

Yokosuka Station Police arrested Takahiro Yamada, 68, of Shiroyama, Miura City, for violating a public nuisance ordinance regarding chikan, or molestation, after he groped the thighs of a 27-year-old female police officer on a Keikyu Line train bound for Shioiri Station at around 7:10 a.m., the Sankei Shimbun reports (July 17).

TV Asahi reported that Yamada, who claims to be a part-time worker, admitted to police he molested the officer.

Police said Yamada groped the off-duty plainclothes officer, who was sitting next to him, while she was asleep on her way to work. The victim pinned down his arm after she realized she was groped and asked a nearby passenger to call police.
