HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police have arrested a 34-year-old man after his infant son tested positive for illegal drugs, reports TBS News (July 15).

On July 8, medical personnel at a hospital in Kobe alerted police after an analysis of the urine of the 1-year-old boy revealed the presence of kakuseizai, or stimulant drugs.

Police subsequently arrested Naofumi Nishimoto for the possession of stimulant drugs after a search of his residence, also in Kobe, revealed a bag containing 0.04 grams of the illegal substances.

Nishimoto told police, “(The drugs) were for my own use but I did not give any to the child.”

The suspect had originally brought his son to the hospital after due to a persistent fever.

Police are now investigating whether the drugs inadvertently entered the mouth of the boy.
