OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have busted a casino operating illegally in the Minami entertainment area that is believed to have ties to organized crime, reports the Sankei Shimbun (July 6).

At 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, police entered baccarat casino Leon, located in the Souemoncho district of Chuo Ward, on suspicion of the provision of illegal gambling.

Police arrested 10 male and female employees connected with the casino, including 40-year-old manager Yohei Kumano. Three customers inside the parlors at the time of the raid were also arrested on suspicion of illegal gambling.

During the searches, police seized six million yen in cash and three baccarat tables.

According to police, between 70 and 80 persons per day gambled at the 24-hour operation, with revenue reaching up to three million yen.

Police suspect that the operation was used to fund criminal syndicates, according to ABC News (July 6).
