TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have re-arrested a man suspected in dozens of sexual assaults of women in Hino City and neighboring areas for injuring a woman while attempting to steal her bag, reports TBS News (July 7).

On the morning of June 8, Soshi Urano, a 41-year-old interior designer, allegedly came up from behind the woman, 20, on a road on a scooter and grabbed her handbag as she pedaled a bicycle.

During the attack, the bag got caught on the handlebars and the woman tumbled to the ground. She suffered injuries that required 10 days to heal.

Urano admits to the charges.

Police first arrested Urano last month for allegedly pinning down a girl, 8, as she played with classmates and attempting to pull off her underwear on the afternoon of May 5. However, the girl squatted down to thwart the attack and the suspect fled the scene empty-handed.

Police used an item left at the scene of the crime to identify Urano as a person of interest.

Police are investigating Urano’s possible involvement in 60 other similar incidents that have taken place this year in Hino and Hachioji City in which the victims were women and children.
