Tochigi cops: Skeletal remains found in Nikko forest

TOCHIGI (TR) – Tochigi Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a body in a mountainous area of Nikko City, reports the Shimotsuke Shimbun (July 5).

At approximately 3:20 p.m. on Monday, officers from the Nikko Police Station found skeletal remains in a forest about one kilometer from Nikko Futarasan Shrine.

The body was clothed in a black jacket, blue jeans and brown walking shoes (size 24.5) . The person had 18,000 yen in cash, wool gloves and a wristwatch.

The gender and age of the body are unknown but the person had dentures.

Police, who were tipped off about the body by a male member of a survey crew earlier in the day, are now working to identify the corpse.
