HOKKAIDO (TR) – A man wielding a knife wandered into a police station on Sunday and told officers he killed someone in Sapporo.

Hokkaido police officers investigated the claims by the man, aged in his 60s, that he “killed someone” and visited the seventh floor of an 11-story apartment in Chuo Ward, where they found an unconscious man in his 70s bleeding onto on the floor, the Sankei Shimbun reports (July 3).

Police issued an arrest warrant for the suspect on suspicion of murder, and are following leads that he could be related to the victim who is believed to have lived alone.

Multiple stab wounds were found on the victim’s upper torso. He was brought to a hospital where his death was confirmed.

The incident occurred about 1.5 kilometers southwest from JR Sapporo Station. Nearby buildings include the Hokkaido governor’s diplomatic offices and apartments.
