TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have busted an adult video production and sales company based in Shinjuku Ward for the sale of a genre of DVD deemed obscene due to the emphasis of women’s genitalia, reports NHK (June 30).

Police charged Mitsuru Shimizu, 47, the president of Scom, executive Tsutomu Sato, 56, and one other person for the distribution of obscene digital media.

Known as “non-nude erotica,” the genre includes titles containing collections of still images of women in swimwear and wraps that are tight-fighting and transparent such that genitalia is overtly highlighted.

Scom sells the discs on mail order internet sites like Shibuya Shoten and at shops, according to the Sankei Shimbun (June 30). Each disc sells for around 5,000 yen each.

Shimizu admits to the allegations. However, Sato denies the charges. “Since these are art works, I did not consider them to be obscene,” the suspect is quoted by police.

The company has produced approximately 300 titles in which revenue totaled 300 million yen.
