TOCHIGI (TR) – Tochigi Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of body inside a burned-out vehicle in Nikko City, reports the Shimotsuke Shimbun (June 30).

At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, a male passerby tipped off police about a body inside a passenger vehicle that had caught fire in a vacant lot in the Senbongi area.

Officers from the Imaichi Police Station arriving at the scene found the body to be heavily damaged due to burns, according to TBS News (June 30). The age, gender and height of the person are unknown. No clothes were found at the scene.

Police are now working to identify the body.
