Shizuoka cops nab man in stabbing death of woman

SHIZUOKA (TR) – Shizuoka Prefectural Police have arrested a 42-year-old man in a stabbing incident that left one woman dead in Hamamatsu City, reports Nippon News Network (July 1).

At around 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, a person walking on a sidewalk in Higashi Ward tipped off police about a woman who was “collapsed and bleeding from her head and chest.”

Emergency personnel arriving at the scene found the woman unconscious and with stab wounds in approximately 10 locations of her body. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she was later confirmed dead.

At about 11:00 p.m., Kenichi Matsuzaka, a resident of Naka Ward, appeared at a police box near the crime scene and admitted to stabbing the woman. He was arrested without a warrant on charges of murder.

“I thought it was bad but I did not mean to kill her,” the suspect is quoted by police.

Police have not yet located a murder weapon.

The victim is believed to be aged in her 40s. Police are now working to confirm her identity.
