TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body inside a suitcase found floating in a canal in Shinagawa Ward, reports Nippon News Network (June 27).

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Monday, a passenger on a boat informed police about a black suitcase floating in a canal that connects with Tokyo Bay. Police arriving at the scene retrieved the bag and found the body of the woman inside.

The body, believed to be that of a woman aged between 30 and 50, was clothed in a tank top and shorts. No external wounds were found on the body.

Police are now seeking to confirm the identity of the woman and determine the cause of death.

The location of the discovery was in front of the Dai-ichi Hotel Tokyo Seafort, approximately 200 meters from Tennozu Isle Station on the Tokyo Monorail.
