Tokyo cops nab key Yamaguchi-gumi executive in bank fraud

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Sunday announced the arrest of a key executive in the Yamaguchi-gumi organized crime group for bank fraud, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 26).

According to the Arakawa Police Station, Shigeo Goto, a 51-year-old private secretary for the gang’s top boss, Shinobu Tsukasa, allegedly withheld his gang affiliation in opening an internet bank account with a branch in Setagawa Ward in November of 2010.

Police allege that Goto received a login ID and password.

Goto, who has been charged with fraud, denies the charges, telling police that he does not recall things from such a long time ago.

The suspect is a member of the Nagoya-based Kodo-kai, an affiliate gang of the Yamaguchi-gumi that was was co-founded by Tsukasa in 1984. He serves as a key business advisor to Tsukasa.
