Tokyo cops: Corpse found in Arakawa River in Koto Ward

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a corpse believed to be that of a woman in a river in Koto Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 26).

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, a man playing with his children notified police of what appears to be a body on a bank of the Ara River in the Higashisuna area. Officers from the Joto Police Station arriving at the scene found the partially skeletal body in some bushes near a walking path.

The body is believed to be that of a woman measuring 167 centimeters in height. The body was clothed in a sweater and pants. The person was not wearing shoes. No personal articles were found nearby.

Police are now working to confirm the identity of the person and determine the cause of death.
