NAGANO (TR) – Nagano Prefectural Police are investigating a stabbing incident that left one woman dead at a residence in Matsumoto City, reports NHK (June 27).

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Monday, the body of Satomi Yamada, a 53-year-old part-time employee, was found collapsed and bleeding from her head in a first-floor bedroom by her daughter. After emergency personnel arrived, she was transported to a nearby hospital where she died about one hour later.

Yamada shares the residence with her daughter, son and the parents of her husband, who also live on the first floor. Her husband works away from home.

Just prior to the discovery, family members heard a scream from the first floor bedroom. Her daughter, who lives upstairs, then checked the room and made the grisly discovery.

According to police, the injuries to Yamada were consistent with a stabbing but a knife or similar weapon has been yet been located. The interior of the room had not been ransacked.

Police are treating the case as murder.
