FUKUOKA (TR) – Police have arrested three teenage boys for allegedly using metal poles to stab more than a dozen carp in a lake in Kurume City, reports the Asahi Shimbun (June 24).

On the morning of June 17, a 67-year-old male employee at a hot springs facility, located in the Nonakamachi area, found 17 nishikigoi carp wounded and another three dead in a lake.

The 20 fish have an estimated value of 40,000 yen.

After an examination of security camera footage, officers from the Kurume Police Station arrested three boys, aged 16 and 17, on charges of destruction of property.

All of the suspects have admitted to the allegations. “We did it for fun,” one of the suspects is quoted.
