TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of human body parts in a park in Meguro Ward, reports NHK (June 23).

At approximately 10:30 a.m., police received a tip from a visitor to Himonya Park about the discovery of “what looks like a person’s foot floating” in a lake.

Police arriving at the scene found a right foot, head, torso and other body parts in searching the lake.

With portions of the remains having turned skeletal, it is believed an extended period has passed since the death of the person. The gender and age of the person are not known.

Police are now working to identify the body.

According to the office of Meguro Ward, the park is open from until 9:00 p.m. However, there is no time restriction for access to the lake.

The park is located about 400 meters from Gakugei-Daigaku Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line.
