TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are seeking to question a former marathon runner at Aoyama Gakuin University over the alleged assault of a woman in January, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (June 21).

According to the Yoyogi Police Station, the man, 22, head-butted the woman in the face and punched her in the stomach on January 26. The two had gotten into a quarrel over a wristwatch given as a present.

The woman, who suffered injuries that required two weeks to heal, filed a complaint with police earlier this month.

The man graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University, located in Shibuya Ward, in March as a member of the track-and-field team. In January, he participated in the two-day Hakone Ekiden relay race. The university defended its title in winning the event for the second consecutive year.
