YAMAGUCHI (TR) – Yamaguchi Prefectural Police have arrested a male civic employee over the alleged theft of underwear from a woman’s residence in Yamguchi City, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 14).

On December 9 at approximately 1:00 p.m., the suspect, a 39-year-old employee in a tax division for the city of Hofu, allegedly trespassed into the residence of the woman and stole three pairs of her underwear that were drying under an overhang.

The suspect became a person of interest for police after the examination of surveillance camera footage.

Masato Matsuura, the major of Hofu, expressed regret over the incident. “After checking the facts of the case, the matter will be dealt with strictly,” the mayor is quoted.
