Manhunt under way after Hyogo woman stabbed, robbed

HYOGO (TR) – Police are searching for a man who is wanted in connection with a stabbing and robbery on Tuesday at an eatery, which left a woman hospitalized with serious injuries.

Hyogo Prefectural Police responded to an emergency call at around 9 p.m. reporting that a female customer was stabbed by a knife-wielding man in an eatery in Nishimachi, Amagasaki City, and found a woman lying on the floor who was bleeding from the waist, the Mainichi Shimbun reports (June 15).

Police are searching for the male suspect who stole her bag and ran on foot. The case is being investigated as attempted murder and robbery.

Police said the victim was talking with the eatery owner’s wife after dinner when she was suddenly stabbed once from behind by a man wielding a knife-like object.

According to Jiji Press, a worker witnessed the suspect snatch her bag that was hanging from her chair before he fled.

The Sankei Shimbun reported that a bloody knife was left at the crime scene.

The victim was quoted as saying that she is “not acquainted with the man.”

Police said the suspect in his 50s is 170 centimeters tall and was last seen wearing a hat dressed in grey work clothes.

The incident occurred in a residential area about 500 meters northwest of Amagasaki Center-Pool-Mae Station.
