Elderly man killed by train in Osaka

OSAKA (TR) – A man was killed on Tuesday after he was struck by a train at Kayashima Station, causing a 40-minute delay that affected some 48,000 commuters.

An unemployed 73-year-old man was struck and killed by a Demachiyanagi-bound eight-car express train on the Keihan Main Line at around 7:55 p.m. at Kayashima Station, Neyagawa City, the Sankei Shimbun reports (June 15).

According to police, witnesses said they saw the man appear to fall off the train platform. The driver reportedly slammed the emergency brakes, but the train couldn’t stop in time.

Keihan Electric Railway said eight train services were suspended as a result of the incident, which caused a roughly 40-minute delay that affected around 48,000 commuters.
