YAMANASHI (TR) – Yamanashi Prefectural Police on Saturday retrieved a corpse discovered on Mt. Fuji via helicopter, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 11).

Officers from the Fujiyoshida Police Station located skeletal remains near the seventh station of the Subashiri Trail at around noon on June 10.

After waiting for clouds to clear, police retrieved the body, whose gender and age are not known, with a helicopter the following day.

On June 6, a person working on the mountain informed Shizuoka Prefectural Police about the discovery of the body. Since the location is not in Shizuoka Prefecture, police in Yamanashi were alerted.

No equipment or bags were found along with the body, according to Nippon News Network (June 11).

Police are now working to confirm the person’s identity.

The case is being treated as the result of an accident.
