YAMAGATA (TR) – A Ground Self-Defense Force officer was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of drunk-driving.

Yamagata Prefectural Police arrested Hiroki Ishigaki, 23, a petty officer third-class of the GSDF Jinmachi Camp, on suspicion of violating the Traffic Law for driving while intoxicated at around midnight in Koriyama City, the Sankei Shimbun reports (June 11).

Ishigaki was pulled over and questioned by an officer on drunk-driving watch, authorities said. A breathalyzer test indicated his reading exceeded the legal limit.

Lt. Col. Takafumi Abiru, the suspect’s commanding officer, said in a statement the incident is “truly regrettable. After confirming the facts, he will strictly be dealt with.”
